Foundation’s Heroes
The Foundation’s Heroes are the friends, organizations, partners, supporters, volunteers, and individuals who have made an extraordinary impact on the Ponderosa Stomp Foundation’s work – They are the Foundation’s “unsung heroes” whose behind-the-scenes work rarely garners much attention.
We will feature those who have given their time, their energy, their skills, their financial support, and so much more, because they believe in our mission. Their generosity makes our work of reaching out to the individuals who helped shape the American sound possible; they shine a light on the musicians’ life and work. Although the size of this recognition is no way comparable to the size of the contribution, we want to say thank you and acknowledge these Heroes’ support.
American Routes is a weekly two-hour public radio program produced in New Orleans, presenting a broad range of American music — blues and jazz, gospel and soul, old-time country and rockabilly, Cajun and zydeco, Tejano and Latin, roots rock and pop, avant-garde and classical. Now celebrating in our 10th year on the air, American Routes explores the shared musical and cultural threads in these American styles and genres of music — and how they are distinguished.
The program also presents documentary features and artist interviews. Our conversations include Willie Nelson, Tom Waits, B.B. King, Dr. John, Dave Brubeck, Abbey Lincoln, Elvis Costello, Ray Charles, Randy Newman, McCoy Tyner, Lucinda Williams, Rufus Thomas, Jerry Lee Lewis and many others. Join us as we ride legendary trains, or visit street parades, instrument-makers, roadside attractions, and juke joints, and meet tap dancers, fishermen, fortunetellers and more.
The songs and stories on American Routes describe both the community origins of our music, musicians and cultures — the “roots”— and the many directions they take over time — the “routes.”

Foundation Donor Brian Gourley in Belize
Although Brian Gourley is a recent addition to the Mau Mau Family, he has already given the Foundation not only direct contributions, but also many hours of his time helping us create compelling, multimedia, promotional and fundraising materials. His support of and commitment to these projects will have a lasting, substantial impact on our future efforts. He and his fiancee are avid music fans and supporters and we want to say thank you to them both and Congratulations on the coming wedding!
Without the entire Bent Media team, The Ponderosa Stomp would look very boring! Bent Media has generously donated hours of man-time to help us craft our aesthetic – designing our logo, the Ponderosa Stomp Concert website, and most recently, this great new Foundation Site! Their work is unique and we encourage you to check them out.
