Ponderosa Stomp to be Featured in New Exhibit at the Stax Museum “STILL LIFE IN SOUL: Contemporary Music Photography by Jacob Blickenstaff”
November 6, 2009 – April 30, 2010

The Ponderosa Stomp Foundation works to ensure that the unsung heroes of American music are given their due: celebrated, included, and remembered, but most of all, heard.

The Ponderosa Stomp Foundation began with an annual blowout show, triumphantly returning hundreds of the architects of blues, R&B, soul, rockabilly and garage rock to the spotlight. Over eight years of shows, the Stomp saw musicians who thought they were forgotten re-launch dormant careers – and rediscover their own importance to legions of fans.

The Foundation is also a year-round effort. Our programming includes education initiatives in schools and museums, an ongoing oral history project and an annual three-day music conference, which presents the study of American music history in a unique first-person, primary-document context, providing students & adults an opportunity to meet & have a dialogue with artists – engaging, teaching and fostering a lifelong love of the arts & cultural history

Since the inception of the Ponderosa Stomp in 2001, we have put on over 75 shows and events, employed more than 700 musicians and given an often-forgotten generation of musicians a platform to perform – and reeducate – the public about their pioneering cultural contributions.

The opportunity to give these architects of music the recognition they deserve and to capture their stories during their lifetimes is a finite one. We invite you to join us, though, & help ensure we have a complete & honest version of American music history.

Please take a look around our site and learn more about the Foundation’s programming and how to lend your support – joining us in honoring the architects of American Music!
